Head Lice Management (All Grade Levels)
Head lice, although not an illness or a disease, is very common among children and is spread very easily through head-to-head contact during play, sports, or nap time and when children share things like brushes, combs, hats, and headphones.

If careful observation indicates that a student has head lice, the school nurse will contact the student's parent/guardian and inform the parent that the student will need to be picked up from school for a treatment with an FDA-approved lice shampoo/treatment product.  After the student has undergone treatment, the student will need to be brought to the nurse's clinic at school for the nurse to examine and evaluate for any live lice.  If live lice are found, treatment options will be discussed with the parent and the student will need to be taken home for further treatment.  The student will need to be re-examined by the nurse until cleared to ride the bus and/or return to school.

More information on head lice can be obtained from the TDSHS website
